La Carrera Panamericana

La Carrera Panamericana – Long celebrated as one of the most intense, grueling challenges in motorsports, La Carrera Panamericana is widely regarded as an incredibly difficult undertaking for competitors to successfully complete. Spanning seven days through the winding roads of Southern Mexico as the race whips across mountain roads through crowded, cheering towns on its way up to the Northern border, La Carrera Panamericana is a grand racing tradition more than seventy years in the making in the spirit of the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio.

For automotive enthusiasts who are interested in experiencing the historic event but aren’t ready for competition, La Carrera Panamericana is thrilled to also offer the Sport & Classic Tour at this year’s running of the event. Meant for enthusiasts looking to drive classic and premium sports cars without modifications, the five-day Sport & Classic Tour offers a safe, controlled alternative designed to embody the experience of the event through the scenic roads of Mexico without any elements of competition. This allows participants to travel within the contingent of La Carrera Panamericana without having any pressure to race against the competitors.

Participants of the Sport & Classic Tour are also able to stay in beautiful, luxurious hotels while dining on authentic Mexican cuisine throughout the five-day journey.

“In recent years, we’ve noticed major interest in the Sport & Classic Tour at La Carrera Panamericana. For competitors who aren’t quite ready for the intensity that comes with racing in the event, or for automotive enthusiasts just looking for an unforgettable experience behind the wheel of their favorite car, this tour is the perfect way to safely participate in a life-changing automotive event,” comments La Carrera Panamericana’s Karen Leon. “The Sport & Classic Tour is really the best of both worlds, because participants still travel the same routes as the racing teams, and they get to interact with these competitors at the end of each day when the competition is complete. The tour participants get a taste for what makes this event so iconic, but don’t have to worry about the time it takes to get from one stage to the next.”

The Sport & Classic Tour has several rules and regulations in place to create a safe, risk-free event for all who participate. Only 20 spots are opened for the tour in an effort to minimize travel parties and to keep the roadways as clear as possible. 10 cars are accepted for the Classic Tour, meant for classic vehicles only, while the other 10 are reserved for the Sport portion of the tour, meant for modern performance vehicles. Cars eligible for the Classic Tour include Porsche’s built between 1950 and 1979, any other vintage automotive marque built between 1950 and 1960. The Sport Tour is for premium performance cars built between 2015 and 2021, such as a Ferrari or Porsche. All other vehicles are subject to committee approval prior to the
event.

All participants of the Sport & Classic Tour must obtain a driver’s motorsport license in Mexico and obey all traffic regulations and speed limits throughout the event. These participants are also unable to overtake any competitor vehicles, in an effort to keep everyone safe on challenging roadways. Participants are also given a clear set of guidelines of rules and regulations to ensure complete safety, including necessary spare parts to bring for the five-day journey and pertinent safety information. Twisting roads, uneven surfaces, mountain roads, crowded streets, natural hazards, and vertical drops all combine to make the event a challenging yet enjoyable engagement.

Originally conceived by the Mexican government in 1950 to celebrate Mexico’s completion of the Pan-American Highway and in an effort to attract international business and tourism, La Carrera Panamericana has built a global presence and increases in popularity every year. The modern rendition of La Carrera Panamericana has now run for 35 consecutive years, offering both professional and amateur drivers an opportunity to experience the thrills and challenges of the iconic event. The Sport & Classic Tour offers the ideal alternative for those hoping to experience the event without being subjected to the grueling challenges that competitors face each day.

Pricing for the Sport & Classic Tour starts at $7,500, which includes a five-night hotel stay and lunch and dinner on every day of the tour. Participants are also able to attend the Awards Dinner at the conclusion of La Carrera Panamericana, where they can interact with competitors and celebrate with event winners.
