Tesla Powered Mini EV Conversion by Gildred Racing
Tesla Powered Mini EV Conversion – Gildred Racing (a name recognized in the automotive world for their high-performance MINI Super Cooper custom builds) is proud to announce the company’s new Tesla powered 300-hp 1971 MINI, the first-ever Gildred Racing Super Cooper EV. Designed to offer high-performance in a classically cool, no compromises MINI with ample range, Super Cooper EV’s are now available for pre-order with Gildred Racing offering these EV commissions at a starting price of $140,000.
“The Super Cooper EV utilizes a high voltage system developed by Electric Classic Cars, the world’s premier gasoline-to-electric conversion company. They built a phenomenal system for an EV MINI conversion,” comments Tyler Gildred, President and Owner of Gildred Racing. “It’s so pure in terms of what a classic MINI is and should be, that I really think the new Super Cooper EV is going to be something that we focus on a lot moving forward. I really love it.”
Designed to deliver a sustainable vintage-styled MINI without sacrificing modern power or performance, the new line of Gildred Racing Super Cooper EV incorporates a Tesla small drive unit, taken from a dual motor Model S or X, capable of nearly 300-hp and 250 lbs. of torque. The high-capacity battery allows for an impressive 150-mile range on a single charge, which assures extended fun on the open road and is made for active lifestyles in a stylish, yet capable one-of-a-kind EV.
Each Gildred Racing Super Cooper EV delivers electrification paired with modern conveniences such as A/C and heating alongside premium audio systems, all seamlessly integrated in a classic MINI. Gildred Racing makes sure that each Super Cooper EV commission is customizable, allowing clients to create their very own classically inspired MINI.
Gildred Racing starts each Super Cooper EV conversion with a thorough restoration of a vintage MINI. Each commission is then adapted to fit the client’s driving style and usage preferences with vehicle acceleration, maximum throttle, and regenerative braking considered. Gildred Racing works with clients to make sure that each Super Cooper EV uniquely suits each driver’s preferences. An on-board selector switch can accommodate a driver’s situational needs with more efficient Normal and performance-oriented Sport driving options.
Gildred Racing’s first new Super Cooper EV is a classic 1971 Leyland MINI sharply showcased in an eye-catching Riviera Blue with a gray roof and a houndstooth cream and light gray fabric interior. The interior cabin retains an authentic 1970’s era aesthetic with classic Smiths style instruments adorning the quintessential center binnacle and open dash design.
“This is about the fastest, smoothest, best driving classic MINI that you can really hope for,” comments Nathan Hoagland, Mechanic and Fabricator at Gildred Racing. “We wanted to keep this first EV classic with a streamlined dash and controls so that any driver could just get in and go. It looks and feels like a classic MINI, except with a whole lot more power, better drivability, and a much quieter experience for everyone inside the vehicle.”

About CarShowz.com
Established in 2009, CarShowz.com was originally created under the .us domain name and later converted to a .com. The old days of searching forum posts and going through the stack of event flyers that was placed on your seat at a show was becoming a pain.
The primary goal for the design of the CarShowz.com website was to provide a one-stop-shop for automotive enthusiasts to easily find events and market their local event for free. Over the years the website has evolved into what it is today taking on automotive photography as one of our staples for the website.
Jennifer is the backbone of CarShowz. Since the inception of the original website that was rolled out in 2009, Jen is a huge asset to the CarShowz program and is instrumental in getting the event database updated and current with the latest events. Our mission from the beginning is to support the local events and enthusiasts and Jennifer ensures that is accomplished. Jen also captures events behind the lens as a Photographer.
