2022 Rev Up for Rotary Auto Show – Have you ever attended a car show in an amusement park? I can joyfully say that I have after attending the Rev Up for Rotary Auto Show. The show was held on Saturday September 17, 2022 at the Adventure Park USA in Monrovia, MD. That’s right, a car show in an amusement park.
I had the pleasure of checking out a few rides that I hadn’t seen before. First up was a gorgeous 1939 Diamond T truck. I approached this truck from the rear and was immediately impressed by the handmade wooden bed. The truck was restored to be as original as possible, down to the engine, interior, and chrome. The owner did most of the work himself including body, electrical, wooden bed, paint preparation, and drivetrain. While the owner was a jack-of-most trades, he did outsource the final paint, upholstery, and final chrome. Although he attempted to keep the truck as original as possible, he did add new wiring, new lights, electric wipers, and converted from 6V to 12V electricity. Don’t expect to get home very quickly in this rig, it tops out at a casual 53MPH.
New to the show this year was an all-Jeep category, attracting about half a dozen off road entries. One black Jeep Rubicon stood out from the pack; it looked like it was ready for an apocalypse. The owner is a county police officer and fittingly choose to accent his ride with several Punisher logos. With a 3.5” lift kit, 20” rims and 37” tires, this Jeep certainly had the right stance. One of my favorite features was the custom grill, it brought the whole theme together.
At the end of the day, about 25 trophies were awarded across 10 categories. The unique location of this show made it one to remember.
Rotary International is a global volunteer organization providing humanitarian services helping to build goodwill and peace. Local Rotary clubs provide local communities with humanitarian, cultural and educational activities. Rotary club partners with local organizations to provide health care, medical supplies, clean water, food, job training, youth development, and education. One of their global efforts is to provide Polio vaccines to the world. To date, Rotary has contributed $800 million to this cause.
Adventure Park USA is located at 1113 Baldwin Rd, Monrovia, MD 21770. The small family-owned park is open yearly from March to October. Indoors, the park features a 4D theater, mini bowling, laser tag, arcade, and a rock-climbing wall. Head outdoors to check out three roller coasters, a super slide, mini golf, go karts, carousel, and other rides. Upcoming events include their Fall Festival, Beer Fest, and Halloween Cookie Decorating.
