Classic Truck Throwdown Top 10 – CarShowz Choice
Classic Truck Throwdown Top 10 – The first annual CTT event took place in Conroe, Texas from June 30th through July 2nd, 2023 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, the same location as the Lone Star Throwdown event.
The CarShowz crew flew into Houston Hobby Friday morning, and we made our way to the fairgrounds. The heat was, well hot, but I feel it was bearable throughout the weekend with plenty of hydration, my ridiculously looking bucket hat and neck coolers, mind you we get some pretty hot and humid weather in Maryland, and this is not our first rodeo.
Being the first annual event and a 1998 and older vehicles, we did not know what to expect when it came to participation, both for the vehicle registration side and the vendor side. Final registration counts were 473 preregistered, 122 registrations the day of and a total of 86 display / vendor vehicles, which is not too bad given the quality of the builds that were in attendance.
There were vendors throughout the fairgrounds selling products, clothing as well as a handful of food vendors. Overall, this event gave a different vibe, it seemed a lot more relaxed and less hustle and bustle, truly a different crowd. With over 200 acres of fairgrounds, the show was pretty spread out, making the overall attendance look very slim if you were strolling through the fairgrounds. Also competing with the heat and the weekend before a holiday, the show definitely did not have those in its favor.
With the high standards that LST has set, the expectation from several folks was the amount of people that LST draws. The staff for LST have perfected that show since 2012 and with CTT being a first-year event, given the challenges mentioned above, I think it did pretty well, given the quality of builds on display. This show will continue to grow, and we are excited to see what the future holds for Classic Truck Throwdown.
