Pep Boys Speed Shop Toy Drive – Community Support

It’s that time of the year, the holidays are just around the corner and believe it or not it is a very stressful time for many families. The holidays are supposed to be relaxing, an opportunity to spend time with your family, friends and over indulge in the foods we love. There are many families who have an added burden of stress of figuring out how to provide; whether it is during Thanksgiving to put food on the table or putting presents under the tree for Christmas (or other holidays observed). The Pep Boys Speed Shop Glen Burnie, managed by our friend Jeremy Cornwell decided to step it up this year over years past and start a toy drive to help local families manage that burden.

The Toy Drive at the Speed Shop is not something new, Jeremy has always supported the community from hosting local charity events for the community and putting together toy drives in years past. This year was a bit different, the car community and friends came together like no other year. You see Jeremy set a goal of 25 bikes, which is amazing in itself, but the community came together and donated 85+ bikes, 12 FULL boxes of toys and we still have 2 weeks left to accept more bikes and toys.

Best capture of the day. So precious!

It was overwhelming watching the amount of vehicles roll-in to drop-off bike after bike, toy after toy! Pep Boys Marketing Manager Diane Calhoun made the trip down from Philadelphia to support Jeremy and the Speed Shop. We had a great conversation about the car community and all of the great work Jeremy is doing with the community. That’s what it is all about, bringing the community together and to Jeremy’s credit, that’s years of building relationships with the car guys and gals of the community to pull off an event like this! However, Jeremy’s mission is not over, as mentioned there is still a couple of weeks left and Jeremy has some things up his sleeve to continue to build the toy stock pile. December 7-8 is East Coast Indoor Nationals, the Speed Shop will have a display of vehicles and that’s where Jeremy and friends will sell t-shirts (for charity) and continue to collect to help those in need.

Friends Helping Friends

This article would not be complete if I do not mention our friend Clifton Brown. When Jeremy started to network with fellow car/truck enthusiasts, Clifton and friends shifted into high-gear and worked countless hours putting a few dozen bikes and scooters together for the Speed Shop. Not only is this event a great way to help give back to the community, this has also brought together family and friends for the cause. Well done Clifton and friends!

There are so many people to thank in helping make this event and the donations possible. Several local businesses came together and have literally donated several bikes and scooters for the cause!

What a turnout. There’s almost 100 bikes! A rack of scooters, and a huge pile of random toys!! Amazing what people are willing to do to help those with less. Very refreshing…
