Baltimore Cancer Support Group 9th Annual Car Show

Baltimore Cancer Support Group 9th Annual Car Show – The Baltimore Cancer Support Group (BCSG) held its 9th annual car show in the Joppatowne Plaza on Sunday October 23, 2022.  Fortunately for all, the rain held off until after the show, allowing the attendees to enjoy a comfortable October afternoon.   This year’s event, attracted about 170 cars, truck, and bikes ranging from ratrod to hotrod, stock to custom, and classic to fresh off the showroom floor.

One of my favorite builds at the show was a van.  You read that correctly, a van.  A 1964 Ford “Falcon” Econoline to be exact.  After seeing one at a car show and thinking it would make a cool project, the owner spent two years trying to find the right one.  He then spent the next four years casually working on it and until he got more serious once he retired about a year ago.  The owner did most of the work himself including sheet metal, wiring, door panels, carpeting, and the drivetrain.  To complete the build, he outsourced the seats and paint.  For an engine, the owner selected a 302 V8 and paired it with a 9” rear. The interior of this van is quite unique.  In the dash you can find a classic 8 track next to a modern GPS navigation system.  The overhead console, lifted from a 2001 F150, provides accurate outside temperature and compass direction.  In the back, the owner removed one of the back seats, giving passengers more room to stretch their legs and creating space for the various display memorabilia.  On the outside, the body is straight, the chrome is polished to a high shine, and the custom orange paint with blue roof really sets it off.  All in all, a very fun build.

I want to give a shout out to organizers who did a fantastic job putting this show together.  They had multiple volunteers collecting the entry fee, virtually eliminating any line to get in.  A DJ, who was centrally located so that everyone at the show could hear, kept attendees entertained with music and announcements.  And the sponsors were extremely generous, allowing the host to give out about 40 door prizes.  This was a great show for a great cause. Proceeds from the show benefit the Baltimore Cancer Support Group, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide support for those affected by cancer including patients, caregivers, and the bereaved.  We all know someone that has been affected by cancer.  It is comforting to know that there is a group out there to help folks deal with those impacts and support them if times get tough.  You can find more information about BCSG on their website, https://baltimorecancersupportgroup.org/.
